Kezar
Lake Access Improvement Project
On Sept 7, 2007 members from The Bass Federation and Heidi Linscott
from Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation completed much needed repairs to
the launch ramp located at the Narrows on Kezar Lake. The town of Lovell donated
heavy equipment and materials to stabilize the access road while Wilson
Excavating Inc. was the hired contractor who completed the restoration work on
the road and the ramp.
This
project was overseen by the OCSWCD and the conservation funding was made
available through TBF (The Bass Federation) of Maine and FLW Outdoors on behalf
of the National Guard.
The
site was suffering from a severely eroded access road and the shoreline adjacent
to the launch was also in need of repair as soil run-off was decreasing the
water quality of the lake. Over the past few years, the ends of the concrete
ramp had shifted causing trailer axles to fall and become stuck. In order to
remedy these problems, the access road was stabilized and capped, riprap was
added to the shoreline, the concrete slab was moved back into place, and
vegetation was added to the buffer zone in order to filter water runoff and
redirect foot traffic. These improvements were seen as necessary as the site is
a popular launch site for tournament fishermen, pleasure boaters, and weekend
anglers. The repairs will greatly improve the ease to which boaters will be able
to get their vessels both in and out of the water and prevent further damage to
the natural resources in the area. The work was completed when an informative
sign was placed at the entrance to remind boaters to properly dispose of used
finishing line, obey all no wake zones, and to check their boat, trailer, and
equipment for invasive species.
