Cooper
Spring
Cooper Spring, a public water supply, has had a host of volunteers involved
in maintaining this property. The public is seen at the spring daily availing
itself of this natural resource. The Robertson family have faithfully enhanced
the aesthetics of the site, done water testing, crafted and assisted in erecting
a new sign. Their many hours of volunteer help will be greatly missed. Stephen
Jack and Record Lumber Building Supply have donated labor and materials for the
sign and its concrete foundation. Consistently many visiting their support by
placing a donation in the green metal container. Your support is greatly
appreciated and been used to defray monthly water testing and periodical
maintenance tasks. Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of
Supervisors and Staff thank you.
Monthly, the water is tested for coliform bacteria. Annually, it is tested
for nitrates and nitrites. The results are reported to the Maine Drinking Water
Program at the Department of Health and Human Services.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Cooper Spring provides a great
natural resource used by many in the course of the year. Volunteers can
have a role in preserving this asset. Easy steps would be picking up any
litter as you come to collect spring water, collecting feces from pets to
prevent groundwater contamination and being considerate of others who also enjoy
the spring.
The Oxford County Soil and Water
Conservation District appreciates the volunteer(s) that have continually weed
wacked and/or mowed the Cooper Spring property. The donations received for
the water testing and maintenance costs have relieved the financial burden.
We do thank all of you participating in this effort.
More volunteer opportunites
exist. Call Michele or Jane at the Conservation District if you can help
